Make It Work
I miss Project Runway. Although if it were on, I suppose I would have to subscribe to cable, which is not really high on my list of purchase priorities. So much has happened, friends, in just the last 10 days and it's amazing how a 10 hour day job (I know) starts to not feel as long. There's too much to say just to catch up, so here is a list of things that have happened, will happen, and have been on my mind.
+ Went to Disneyland last Saturday + Signed up for Swap-Bot, and consequently joining 3 swaps already! + Chinese New Year two weekends ago + Road trip to Arizona this weekend + Fun co-workers to make the daily grind more bearable + Fully stocked fridge + Hopefully buying tickets to Wicked soon + Letters from friends! + Responses to resumes + Life Drawing & Marker Rendering classes + Zodiac coming out on Friday + Fully stocked fridge + More photos to come + Seeking cute everyday boots + Can't get the "Can Polyester Save The World?" NYTimes article out of my head, boo fast clothing + So many letters to write, but e- and snail
- Spending my whole life at work - End of the month bills - Seeing (most of) Superman Returns (thumbs down) - So many letters/music to catch up on, so little time b/c of life-consuming job - Developing a sore throat from the recent cold wave - Not enough sleepLabels: lists

since feeling is first
Once again, so much has been going on! This past weekend, Ryan and I made a one day trip down to San Diego so I could see this year's production of Vagina Monologues. Ryan fell asleep on the way down, and I had myself a little Hanson retrospect while trying to stay awake and alert. I even brought out the goods from Middle of Nowhere. How did I forget how great A Minute Without You is??
It was wonderful to see plenty of friendly faces in the show, and to be reminded all over again that we all need a context, a community of people who understand where we're coming from. I tend to overshare, to be too open about my life, all the embarrassing, heartbreaking moments, because I hope that somehow that makes someone else feel like they're not alone. I think the most terrible thing anyone could ever feel is lonely and alone. It always helps me to know that other people feel or have felt the same frustration, isolation, helplessness that I'm feeling with finding a job I want to stay with and making a life after college.
I've also been dealing with the frustration by baking a lot. Last week I made carrot cupcakes from scratch and from the box for my valentine, and today I just made these snickerdoodles.

I found, modified and tested out this vegan Snickerdoodle recipe. Fortunately, unlike the rather deflated carrot cake vegan recipe I tried last week, these turned out quite tasty!
My modified recipe: 1-1/2 cups flour 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 tsp. baking soda Pinch of nutmeg 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce 2 eggs (substitute equivalent) 1 tbsp. vanilla 1 tbsp. maple syrup Cinnamon and sugar, to coat
Directions: Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl. Mix the wet ingredients in a separate bowl. Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients.
Mix a large ball of dough. Form the dough into balls (about 3 measured Tablespoons per cookie) and roll them into the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten each ball to 1/2-inch thick.
Bake at 350°F degrees for about 15 minutes, or until golden. Allow to cool before removing. Makes about 12-16 cookies.Labels: foodie call

Happy Valentine's Day
I found a reason to keep living Oh and the reason, dear, is you I found a reason to keep singing Oh and the reason, dear, is you
Oh I do believe If you don't like things you LEAVE For some place you never gone before
Pa papa papa papa Pa papa papa papa Pa papa papa papa Pa papa papa papa
Honey, I found a reason to keep living And you know the reason, dear it's you And I've walked down life's lonely highways Hand in hand with myself And I realized how many paths have crossed between us
Oh I do believe You're all what you perceive What comes is better that what came before
Oh I do believe You're all what you perceive What comes is better that what came before
And you'd better come, come, come, come to me Come, come, come to meLabels: love, velvet underground

Slow down, you're moving too fast. Frames can't catch you when you're moving like that.
Don't laugh, especially those of you who know me personally, but I am shifting my interest towards the Slow Movement as a lifestyle change. Reveling in the pleasures of life, like walks or delicious meals with great friends, and using all the speedy technology for things like work.
Even as I say this, I'm sitting in bed with my laptop, five photographs torn out of magazines for my Marker Rendering homework, my sketchbook, The History of Love, and my phone. I don't know if a slowing down of life will ever apply to me, as I love to watch a movie while reading blogs, drawing, and talking on the phone/with Ryan. But I do want to focus on really being present, especially with my full focus and patience in a situation.
Needless to say, here are all the things I need to do in the next few days: - Draw one b&w photo, marker render one color photo - Life drawing homework - Search for contributing writer/freelance positions - Join flukiest.com, my friend's boyfriend's networking website. - Upload photos - Check to see if my PC has really crashed this time, and then transfer all consequent music to sync up for a mac. - Go to Marker Rendering and Life Drawing Class - Finish and send swap gift for Free People's Valentine Swap - GET MY HURR CUT - Super exciting picnic date at the Getty - Super secret plans post-date - START WRITING, especially in journal - Grocery shop - Clean apartmentLabels: lists, twentysomething

Love-centric
The world is smaller than you think, and the people on it are more beautiful than you think.
-- Bertram van Munster
I'm so Valentine-minded right now, finding myself drawn to cute vintage valentines even though I've yet to send all my Christmas cards still (I know, sick!), sweet Valentine's mixes at the local five Starbucks (the cover is so charming!), a tiny pink hyacinth plant that's now sitting on my windowsill. Participating in Free People's Valentine swap is also helping me get into the mood. I'll take pictures of the scarf I'm crocheting once I finish! I even made a themed soundtrack for this month, to your left, and am reading The History of Love (so good so far).
Valentine's Day is one of the craftiest holidays around, and so I've found myself reveling in all the pink and red and lace instead of rebuking the commercialism of the holiday. It's all in how you celebrate! And this year I'm especially grateful of all the love I've received from all my friends and family this year. My life is perfect, even when it's not.
On another note, because of the stress of job-hunting and growing up and all matters of that sort, I've taken to baking again. I found this adorable vegan cupcake website: Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World from the people who brought you the book of the same name.Labels: arts+crafts, quotes
