I hate LA.

Already. Before I even move there. I have spent the last two days driving around LA for 8 hours per day with my mom, to very little avail. How is it this hard to find a place to give money to?!

Dear Universe/God/Buddah/Allah/Santa/Oprah/Any Higher Power That Will Listen,

Please drop a decent, safe, liveable apartment in West Los Angeles upon me.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best,
Ann

P.S. Also, please see that karmic retribution is inflicted upon those who most sorely deserve it.

Fucking Frauds

I got totally SCREWED over yesterday by my ex-future-landlord (her name is FLORINE (or FLO) COFFMAN for anyone who reads this, never rent an apartment from her or get your hair done by her, she owns a hair salon in LA), she decided, after we had a verbal agreement four days ago in which she offered me the apartment and I accepted and sent the deposit, that she was giving the apartment to her brother. This issue had NEVER been brought up before and completely blindsighted me as a renter. Then she didn't have the balls to deal with me anymore, so she had her incredibly rude business manager call me to demand me for an address to send back my deposit (which better all come back) and then scream in my ear with the fakest, rudest I HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT DAY.

So I am apartment hunting yet again, even though I hate LA, so who knows. I am so pissed off. Please let me know if you see/hear/know of any places in West LA. And also, if you know any lawyers or bureaus to report her to. I'm already going to BBB.

Seven months, moving, a blog.

First order of business: Join Blingo, which is a search engine just like Google (it's even powered by Google), except that you get a chance to win a prize everytime you search for something. And click on this link to join as my friend, and if one of your friends wins something, you get it too. I'm alllll about free bling.

Second order of business: I am mad as hell at myself for spending the entire summer stressing about finding a job and apartment in LA (both of which I did in the past two weeks), and allowing writing to fall by the wayside. This situation must be remedied, SOON. By lots of short stories, I bet.

Third order of business: I found an adorable apartment in West LA, and will be moving next Saturday. In the meantime, I am frantically packing, moving furniture, and seeing all my dear friends in San Diego before they become dear pen pals this next week. I don't have internet at my current apartment anymore, so updates will be sparse until next week when I get up and running. When I do, I promise to have plenty of stories and photographs to share about embarking on my new adventure, along with an overdue photoblog of our trip to San Francisco. I'm working on keeping those misty eyed tears at bay as I say goodbye for now to many of my favorite people!

Wish me luck on my new adventure!

My cupeth over floweth with joyeth!

I have finally received a decent job offer!! Though I will be taking into consideration the callbacks I will receive for the other interviews, I'm most likely going to go forward with this position. The boss is so loveable, the time, pay, vacations and start date are all right. It's in one of the three fields I was pursuing. AND it allows me to have some flexibility and time to work at my...INTERNSHIP!

I know, I've already been a prolific intern and should be making real money, but this position is a labor of love that I plan to hold concurrent with a "real job". That is because I got an internship with 826LA, a writing center established by Dave Eggers (A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, publisher of Mcsweeney's) and started in San Francisco (also home to the friendly neighborhood pirate supply store). I'm already getting an opportunity to attend one of their many incredible events, even before I start the job. My heart is swelling with the excitement of meeting Jenny Lewis, Dave Eggers, Sarah Vowell, and Jake Gyllenhaal (who I more affectionately refer to in my private life as Jakey-poo).

Now I just need an apartment, to move, and I'm right as rain. What an exhausting 6 weeks of job hunting it's been! Never job hunt in the summer! Pictures coming soon...probably tonight when I get back to the town with all my computers and my big tall boyfriend.

Quick Update:

Got back from a beautiful weekend in San Francisco yesterday. I learned to drive a stick shift!

Had three interviews in LA today.
Have four tomorrow, also in LA. Driving around has been a nightmare.

Pictures, more words, etc. as soon as I get back to my apartment on Friday (and probably after work).

When people think they are seeing something for the last time, they pay attention. I'm starting to notice the way streelights bathe the 805 in coppery pools all the way up to the exit for Ryan's apartment. Truth be told, I am going to miss San Diego.

I've been so caught up in the draining chaos of job hunting that very few moments have I stopped to see around me all the pleasures of this last summer vacation I'll ever have. My entries have been few and far between because I'm trying to save you from the dull ache of job hunting, but I'm also chickening out on the one thing I really need to do besides find someway to pay the rent: WRITING.

These next few weeks will be plenty busy; a trip to San Francisco next weekend (!!!), job interviews, sending out more of resumes, Ryan playing shows again, packing, apartment hunting, squeezing in goodbyes to San Diego friends, etc. Among all the chaos, there are many nights of nothingness. Nothingness that I love. Where Ryan and I make dinner with a record on, eat dinner in front of Scrubs on DVD, and then lie on the bed in silence reading. Sometimes I just stare at the ceiling and feel from my toes to my fingertips exactly how lucky I am. I'm hoarding all these quiet nights at home as much as possible before he starts school and I plunge neckdeep into assistant life, not unlike Andy Sachs'.

I've eaten a whole bag of edamame and a nectarine today, and I'm still thinking about food! Recently I've become bagel obsessed, becoming reaquainted with my favorite EVERYTHING bagel as a means to survive work. I know this can't be good for my waistline. I'm going to shift my focus to writing and the new episode of Project Runway coming up tonight. Are you as obsessed as I am??

Speaking of PR, I found Malan's blog and I am a repenting believer in his favor. I'm sorry, dear Malan, for having pre-judged your creepy laughter and (faux)accent as representation of a pretentious, malicious character. I know you just want friends and you can't laugh regular because you never did as a child.

Some other blogs I'm enamored with: (I need to update my links like whoa)
- DieBusse
- Bibliophagy
- Pink of Perfection
- Elyse Sewell (yes, from ANTM)

Until tomorrow, yo!
