When you feel like you're losing grasp of yourself, what do you do?

Get back in touch with friends who know you well, go OUTSIDE the house, OUTSIDE your familiar zones, and into a life that is waiting for you. They will remind you who you are, and how far you've come, and how you're changing. Also, make new friends, establish better connections with interesting fringe friends -- establishing who you are to these new people is always a way to redefine yourself for your reference.

Use this as a post for finding a way back to who you really are.

Here are five rules for all the girls in the world:
1) Don't trust charming boys.
2) Awkward won't fuck you over.
3) Don't vomit until your teeth fall out.
4) Keep your teeth in your mouth.
5) Always think about la malaise de l'orange

Five things I've been doing this week:
1) Living in the darkroom
2) Telling really long stories in an excited whisper to Ryan
3) Preparing for my Teach For America interview
4) Working on my story/novella
5) Celebrating finishing French!

I love finals week! It's my favorite week of all!

Welcome, Spring!

Welcome, Spring!
Originally uploaded by Love & Tea.
Today is the first day of Spring, ushering in blooms and sunny weather to come. I can't wait until this summer, living two blocks from the beach will finally start to mean something.

As of noon today, I am officially DONE DONE DONE with French. There we go, seven painstaking, long drawn out quarters of French, done done done. I paid my dues to my Literature degree, and know my French literature.

It's pretty much the best feeling ever.

P.S. Peek in the Girl and Reading List section, because I actually updated.

The Duo.

Last night my friend Trinh and I made vegetarian fajita suicides, as I like to call them, as most of the ingredients were collected from what could be found in my refrigerator. The recent bouts of cold rainy nights has left my friends and I less than eager to leave the house. Though we did go out to see Failure To Launch, which was even worse than I had expected it to be. SJP, why. Why did you ever cancel SATC.

We also opened a bottle of wine that my friend Kurt had given me for my birthday and had the open heart discussions that are the foundation of our friendship. There have been many nights in the past year that have included talking til 3 in the morning and end usually with Trinh crashing on my couch, which of course happened last night as well.

This morning we went to Thread, where Project Runway rejects go to congregate. Nonetheless, I scored myself a sweet jacket for $20, Trinh found a delicate pink skirt and a screenprinted shirt, and we got magazines galore -- I love fashion trade shows because I love free shiny glossy pretty things. Afterwards I took her on a maiden voyage to Kung Food for their brunch, then took in this gorgeous death by chocolate mousse at Extaordinary Desserts next door.

It was my kind of Sunday morning.

My goals for the rest of the day include:
- writing five page French final
- working out
- reading How Children Learn
- Grey's Anatomy

There is a path rolling out in front of me; I got invited back for an interview with Teach for America. The interview is from 9am - 6pm, no joke.

The arts magnet coordinator at the elementary school where I'm doing my ArtsBridge project asked me to develop my project into next quarter, and the ArtsBridge coordinator is waving another scholarship at me.

My favorite professor asked me to be a tutor (again) for her introduction to fiction class next quarter. (A tutor in the Literature department is an undergraduate TA).

I am so excited that America's Next Top Model is starting again this week!! It will fill the hole that Project Runway will leave this upcoming Wednesday. Speaking of which, I must clear up that though I'm in love with Daniel Vosovic and want to make out with his face, I think Santino is going to win with his gorgeous line.

& I canNOT get enough of the taco shop next door!

Believe it or not, my life is fulfilling.

If I were to describe my perfect day, it would be something like today.

Waking up with my favorite boy next to me, then spending the morning browsing the farmer's market by myself, my arms weighed down with bags of pink navel oranges, creamer potatoes, pungent goat cheese, fresh baked pita breads, vined tomatoes, and one brisk cucumber.

Then eating, writing critiques, finding out the taco shop around the corner makes THE BEST TACOS, and watching an episode of Gilmore Girls on DVD.

Followed by seeing some VAGINA GIRLS! Seeing them always shakes me, wakes me, makes me. Huge hugs from girls, there's nothing like that in the world. Our unending support for each other, just HEARING that, is amazing. I grew up in a household where praise is a foreign concept, but I'm sure that's the case with many parents from different cultures.

Then I picked up balloons and had a little photoshoot involving Ryan, half a dozen red balloons, and my baby Marc Jacobs (my camera).

Reese Witherspoon won the Oscar for Best Actress, and Crash won for Best Picture. And I realized, much to my dismay, that I may never date Jake Gyllenhaal because when I see him, I don't hear a single word he says. I think my pupils expand beyond the extent of my corneas.

Oh speaking of corneas, my mild eye irritation that rendered me spectacle-bearing and a potential patient with an eye tumor went away too! Whee! (Goddamn student health).

So so so much has been going on that I think I might just have to break it up into a couple entries. But most directly relevant to this site, would be that I have my first photography collection ready, as soon as I code it up you can view my first series.

It's been a good Sunday.
