On Grad Schools, and movement.
I'm taking a class that's basically What To Do After You Graduate With A Writing B.A.. Our major ongoing assignment is researching graduate schools/M.F.A. programs and preparing an application for it. It is perfect for me. I know it sounds fairly ridiculous sometimes to get an M.F.A. (the highest degree for writing) in something like literary arts, but I am fairly certain no matter what I do in this life, I want to eventually to be a university level writing professor (visiting faculty, also possible). I've got a lot of living left to do before that happens though, and this may be part of the experience.
This week we were supposed to narrow down our choices of ones we want to research. Here are mine, in alphabetical order: 1. Bard 2. Brown 3. Columbia 4. Cornell 5. Emerson 6. NYU 7. San Francisco State (solely for staying in SF reasons) 8. USF (see above) 9. University of Texas, Austin 10. University of Washington
There is one that I secretly want to go to with every cell in my body, and I have a feeling even acceptances to any other program will not move me to change my mind.
Grad school, here I come (in maybe another year or two).
P.S. I HATE HATE HATE the word "crit". Just say critique. Or workshop. This might stem from my extreme dislike for a lower division visual arts T.A. a few years ago.

My cookbook is out next spring.
I am a domestic goddess. Last night I made dinner for my roommate and myself, and I minced garlic. MINCED! To make a curry sauce from scratch. And breaded chicken in spiced flour. And it was edible, even delicious according to Shauna. I love cooking because it makes me feel like some crazy alchemist, mixing my potions and my organic subjects found in nature to create the substance for life. It feels magical.
I'm going to make it after all.

My apartment is Cricket World.
I'm sucked into The Real World: Austin marathon because one of the guys on the show looks like someone that I used to be involved with. Since it is MTV, everyone on that show is acting like an idiot. So I'm being amused and distracted by transposing and therefore being completely relieved.
Strike that, he reminds me of two people I used to be involved with -- therefore making me question my taste.
Lacey and her boyfriend are so precious my heart vomitted.
Anyway, time to concentrate on my real world: reading, homework, returning phone calls & making dinner.
I am so in love with Death Cab for Cutie right now. It's incredible how the music can be so familiar and new at the same time, incredible how I feel like the songs grow with me, change and mean so much more now even though I loved them in high school.
One more thing: Lolita is soft porn.

Fully moved into the new place. Pretty much in love. In spite of an insane lightening/thunder storm a few nights ago (in which my half-drugged/half-asleep state occupied me with sleepy thoughts of "I hope it doesn't hit my car"), and waking up to realize there are powerlines right behind our building, everything has been terrific. Love the location, love my roommate, love my room, love love love. I even got my shopping appetite back; I was slacking for the past month -- it was water water everywhere and not a drop to drink. Oh, bad metaphor. From the vintage shops down the street this afternoon, I accumulated 1 dress, 1 skirt, 1 shirt, 1 red bracelet and 1 red belt.
Pictures later, when it looks less bare. I'm doing a few new paintings for the house, and seeing a lot of my friends down here. With all the silly stess and apprehension of my last summer ending, I am pretty damn pleased right now to be back in a place that I had forgotten to call home.
Tomorrow is my last FIRST DAY of school, ever. As an undergrad, anyway. I don't think graduate school is going to feel the same as the past 16 years of school has. School will start to fill my head with thoughts of GREs and applications and essays and books and many many lovely things that I adore in the shape of BIC #2 mechanical pencils and college ruled paper. I am an EXTREME NERD.

Arrrr! Happy Talk Like A Pirate Day!
Saturday, September 17, 2005
I smell like dentist office. But I am happy to announce that this little piggy has NO cavities! All that compulsive flossing and brushing is finally paying off!
Now I am just preparing for getting a new cell phone, three days of marathon cleaning & decorating, finding a job and starting school again. One of my professors has already emailed the class about bringing in work to read the first day. AHHH **&%!#&. Why did I think I could write???
Someone give me a job. Or better yet, throw money at me.
To top off next weekend though, we will probably have a housewarming party/bbq at our apartment. You are welcome. Especially if you bring compliments, sweets, or assorted liquors.

I'm determined to learn to cook this year, which will probably result in some wonderful and some not-so-good experiments. But I feel that once I graduate, it might be unacceptable to live solely off of Whole Foods sandwiches and In & Out. Though that could be more awesome.
My roommate and I are obsessed with method cleaning products. They are oh-so-good for the environment and for people. I nearly burst an artery from excitement yesterday when I saw a home starter kit. I got my mom hooked too. At this rate, no one I know will have lymphoma cancer.

The leaves of memory seemed to make A mournful rustling in the dark. -- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Je t'adore, New York City. 4 years ago, now, and forever. How life has changed.

I really must see 2046 and In The Mood For Love as soon as possible.
And Me and You and Everyone We Know, though I put off this one since I read the script in the office earlier this summer.
Broken Flowers was shallow and disappointing. Not even an appropriate satire, if that's a possible angle.
Hello, Fall.

In light of current events, I am removing all the archives.
Addendum: No anonymous posts, please.
If you were to be stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you take with you?

Today, I'm going to paint. Because I really really miss painting.

I am so filled with nervous, bubbly anticipation and apprehension that I do believe a hot spring is developing in my stomach.
School starts again in 21 days.
Doctors appointments & job interviews in between. & four pills a day, hopefully it will all stop hurting soon.
Just watched The Notebook for the first time, and I have to agree with Annie that this film has singlehandedly rekindled my libido and purged me of my love for boys who wear women's jeans.
Reading reading reading: I recommend Aimee Bender's Willful Creatures and Francesca Lia Block's Necklace of Kisses. Don't read the end on the Block, because she muddles it up as usual. My favorite in Willful Creatures is The Meeting.
"His brain made a lot of shouts and static about his brain's own idea of hair color and sense of humor and animals the woman he met would like (mammals) and his brain's own idea of how to be a member of the world, and everything that was sort of like him and yet different enough still: this woman he met was the woman he met and however you try, you cannot unmeet." (Bender)
I should pack, but instead I'm trying to figure out a way to have sex with Ryan Gosling.
September sure came fast this year.
Cause I am in question You are in reason Soon this will change Just like the seasons My leaves will fall While you'll turn to cold
