"Playground Love" by Air
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. It's the one holiday my family does well. No, well is an understatement. My family does spectacularly. Thanksgiving is also my favorite holiday because it is the celebration of eating and love -- and nothing else. No pretense of presents like that showy Christmas, no overindulgence of sins like that devilish Halloween, and no demonically oversized bunnies of that shady Easter. My friend Katy was inquiring what we have for Thanksgiving, in hopes that she would stumble upon our own asian translations of Thanksgivinghood. But no.Thanksgiving to me is waking up to the smells of a turkey roasting in the oven downstairs, the sounds of my mom shuffling around the kitchen, my dad gardening outside, and my brother watching cartoons. We have Thanksgiving lunch because my dad usually has to work at night; so Thanksgiving evenings are dedicated to movie going on the account of my mom and me.
My grandparents will come over, with my aunt, and bring whatever my mom forgot to pick up at the grocery store earlier -- there are usually a few more runs to Vons before the cooking is over in the morning. My mom will invite over family friends who have small families, or overgrown children. She encourages me to invite all my friends who don't plan to go home for the four days we have off for break (especially if they live eight hours away from here), and friends from home who don't have traditional Thanksgiving meals.
It's the one of three times in the year that my mom actually cooks; and she goes all out. There is turkey, with stuffing to die for, ham, and roast beef. There are potatoes cuddled with butter and seasoning, yams whole and yams burrowed with marshmallows, cranberry sauce jiggling in a small bowl, and multiple vegetable casseroles. The gravy pulls it all together, even though my mom has a new recipe for gravy every year. The apple pie has perfect timing -- always baking until it just knows when.
Oh the memories are cozy, and as each day passes with even more abject excuses for dorm food, I anticipate cozying up to another Thanksgiving on Thursday.
You're all invited, of course.

"Everything" by Lifehouse
Yesterday I went to the art museum with my fiction class. Yes, we have field trips in college. I digress. Anyway, so there is this gorgeous room of window in the museum, and I have to say it's quite distracting from the exhibit. The window is on the front splash page of the museum website, so I suggest you check it out.Have a great night everyone, and don't forget as you're coming off your drunken stupor -- Ann & Jin will be rocking it at ksdtradio.org. Send us love. IM: ksdtradio. 2-4am.

"Nightingale" by Norah Jones
I would like to see Lost in Translation, Love Actually, and The Cat In The Hat while I am home for Thanksgiving break. Thanks. Oh and I can't wait to see Un Long Dimanche de Fiançailles.Which reminds me, I registered for Winter quarter this past Monday. New schedule posted under girl.
I'll have something significant to say sometime soon, I'm just taking a break from my anthro paper right now. For now: remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults. They're worth very little, and insults are directed by fuckers who are too scared to admit to themselves that no matter how hard they try they will never rock as hard as you rock it when you don't even try. End cornyness, now.

"Dirrty" by Christina Aguilera
I decided on Cambridge for the summer after all. It was easy after a phone call with my mother that was basically her saying: "Cambridge or bust. Go to the best university in the world, or stay here and rot for the summer." Even though Cambridge is $2000 more expensive than Sussex. But parents = source of all major financial support.Oh man, those British ivy leaguers are going to kick my ass so hard.

"Sleeping To Dream" by Jason Mraz
I read two articles and a book this weekend.I practically pulled an all nighter writing a profile for my non fiction class on one incredibly fascinating life. I could still go, but my foot is falling asleep and as this song came on, I decided it was time to catch my fourty (?) winks to wake up at 9:40 to register for Winter Quarter. And finish the profile. It's taking me about six good solid hours to document about three stories and four pages. I am definitely turning this into my final project.
I'm pretty incoherent about anything except the scratchy tape playing an slightly Southern drawn voice and the words that spill from my fingers as I tell someone else's story.
Man, this assignment was grueling because it was telling someone else's story for once. It's such good shit.

"In The Country" by She Blonde Swede
Although I love these writing classes, the professors and I differ on the idea of revision. They say it is as important as the writing process itself. I say that when I do things, I do it right the first time.

"Asleep At The Wheel" by She Blonde Swede
Yesterday was filled with friends, too much driving up and down Southern California, birthdays, embarrassing moments on digital video (except I don't really get embarrassed), downtown fuckers, and She Blonde Swede. I must say the Swedes have become sexy rock star style in the four months I haven't seen them - they rock out with their electric guitars and pedals. BTW if Isaac is reading this, he needs to give me his email address cause I realized I don't have it.It's really terrible how badly I'm craving a cigarette lately. I don't even smoke. I just need it like an addict. It must be because I'm cultivating my madness, which will drive me to create my own heartbreaking works of staggering genius. All eventually culminating in my untimely demise.
I'm getting too used to living by myself in a room with a view and a lock on the door. I find myself dancing around in my underwear a lot and enjoying the solace of moments without the pretense of casual conversation. I will kill myself just yet.

"Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears
So I'm toiling away at editing endless papers for my nonfiction & fiction workshop groups -- when this song comes on. And then I drop everything and realize -- everything would be easier if I were just like Britney Spears! My future success and happiness would rely solely on my rock hard abs (which I am sure exist in some state underneath my rather soft and rather pillow like abs of late), my perky boobs, and tight ass! So tomorrow, I'm heading to the gym and tossing the books out the window! I'm tired of winning people over with my personality -- the guys who come knocking on my door are assholes anyway, I should attract more vapid ones who are a good bang.I have had a migraine headache the last two days that has ceaselessly persisted in cracking my sanity. Now I am going to sleep because I am an old lady. I had something more important to say, but the headache and my rapid aging is resulting in my memory loss.

"Not A Pretty Girl" by Ani DiFranco
A year ago today, I was celebrating my birthday by burying my grief underneath the flannel blankets and warm embrace of a boy who liked me too much to say so. We kissed for the first time as I was three hours into my 18th year.Tonight, 7 minutes into my 19th year, I'm going to bed alone, burying my grief underneath my own blankets.

"My Romance" by Ella Fitzgerald
I'm really sleepy. I just took a fourty minute demi-nap.I have two big midterm papers to do tonight; one fictional piece on death that I am planning on combining with my word quota for the day for nanowrimo.org, the second a midterm paper for my history of film class (length & presentation t.b.d.)
Just so you guys know, I've been pretty busy -- and amidst the chaos, I decided to do something productive with this piece of space and created my online notebook, where I will be updating with my notes and assignments from each class throughout the quarter. It was inspired by my friend Jin's Xanga, which she uses to track her guitar-learning & schooling progress (although she did not intend to). It's going to be mostly a study guide & motivation for me -- but feel free to peruse and read and learn what you will from my education.
