Check out my new illustration and Leah's recipe for chocolate waffles today! Makes me wish I had a waffle iron.

Friday was my and Ryan's seven year anniversary. We had a really lovely dinner at The Dining Room in Santa Monica, thanks to the recommendation of a friend. It was so nice to try something new and get to a part of town that we don't usually get to very often. It's kind of sad, but the reality of living in LA is that if you don't live right on the ocean, you probably get out a handful of times a year. It was also nice to get back to the westside, where we first landed when we moved up here.
This is a sneak peak phone camera shot from the day. I love this shot so much, it captures us perfectly. I can't wait to see the rest!

Sometimes I get personal commissions that are sweet and strike a note with my sentimental heart. In December, I got such a request for a custom print as a Secret Santa gift. As a bonus, I threw in a little Thank You painting - and this client introduced me to Grumpy Cat. Hence, how this grumpy cat painting came to be.
P.S. Did you know that Grumpy Cat has a twitter now?

My friend, and talented author, Kim, shared this perfect and simple recipe with me last year. It's barely even a recipe since it's more of an acquire XYZ and assemble kind of thing, but it's changed my life and picks up any listless afternoon or crappy day.
The Supplies (all can be acquired at Trader Joe's):
- vanilla ice cream
- chocolate sauce
- pear halves in grape juice
Then you seriously just assemble and enjoy. It's so embarrassingly easy it can barely be called a recipe, but it's one of those simple and brilliant things you want to jot down just so you can make sure to remember them. It's a good thing.
Happy Monday, friends!

I've been so excited about this book since it first appeared on Amazon in November - Kate Spade New York's Things We Love. It is a gorgeous, oversized coffee table book with gold foil edging and neon pink spot color ink text.
It will definitely be one of the books I reach for when I need a hit of inspiration.

I do have pops of pink and red all over - most of all, in my closet. Here are some new wishlist additions that I'm coveting.

During award show red carpets, I like to play a game called "What Would I Wear to an Award Show that I'll Likely Never Attend"? (Though I have researched if it's possible to EGOT as a graphic designer, and it IS my friends, it IS).
The winners of that game last night were Lucy Liu & Zooey Deschanel. I loved Lucy Liu's Carolina Herrera for being so boldly patterned and princess-y. Like, yeah, it's grandma's drapes - deal with it. Casual fishtail braid and all. And then Zooey's red sweetheart Oscar de la Renta gown with that perfect sixties polished poof ponytail? She has the best hair.
What was your favorite look?

One of the favorite postcards I've ever designed is now available in my shop! I am a big fan of type-driven postcards, something that you can just tape up on your inspiration board. Actually, most postcards are things you can tape up on your inspiration board, right? Basically real life pins. I really think the postcard is the most underrated piece of mail.
Let's bring it back, shall we?
These are perfect for sending a note hello, a thank you, or even a Valentine. Check em out!

With the major cold front moving in, this weekend will be the perfect time to curl up with a good book and get over this lingering cough. Here's what I'm reading this month:
From top left:
An Everlasting Meal: Cooking with Economy and Grace by Tamar Adler
Tempestuous by Kim Askew and Amy Helmes
Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter
Meatless by Martha Stewart Living
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling (rereading this one since I'm loving The Mindy Project so much).
