Happy New Year & 2013 Goals!

Happy New Year, friends! 2012 was amazing, rollercoaster adventure, and that's all I can ever hope for every year. I remember dragging my feet into 2012 since I was a bundle of nerves for what the new year held with so much up in the air after finishing art school. It was time for my risk to show up or pay up! If only I knew all the great things that were around the corner.

Now let me join the chorus with - I can't believe 2013 is upon us. Especially since this is the year Ryan & I are getting married! Beside the wedding, I'm so looking forward to all the new adventures in the new year! New artwork, new clients, new partnerships, new places to travel to, new friends! And the new depths of existing friendships and opportunities, of course. There's so much to celebrate!

I really love the feeling in the air right before the new year, so much possibility and better selves to be. Here are a few of my 2013 goals:

1. Get healthy! Be more conscious of what I eat, greatly reduce the amount of sugar I consume, and pick up a regular work out routine. Try new recipes & cook at home more again. And sleep regularly! No more getting sick for months.

2. Read more. Actually hit my annual goal of reading as-many-books-as-my-age.

3. Plan a wedding and get married to Ryan - and have a ton of fun doing it!

4. Write more. For this blog, for myself.

5. Travel for fun more!

6. Experience more of our amazing city - take a couples' dance class, take cooking classes, go to shows and plays. Really make time to play in my life.

7. Dream bigger. Take all the accomplishments of 2012 and blow it up from there.

What are some of your goals for this exciting new year?

2012 Year in Review

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, for those of you who celebrate it. I made a nice, brief trip up to San Francisco to visit Ryan's family - and then came back with a not nice nor brief cold. Traveling in the winter kinda sucks for that reason.

Anyway, as I get bundled up and ruminate on the new year, I wanted to review highlights from 2012. It's been an amazing year - a banner year, I'd even venture to call it. There were great highs and low lows, but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

January: 2012 started off nutty - I had just graduated and was basically catatonic in bed for a week from exhaustion and shock. And then Ryan proposes and we get engaged on our sixth anniversary!

February: We take an anniversary trip to the Saguaro in Palm Springs. I start a new job as a graphic designer with the in-house design team at FIDM.

March: I attend The Cream event as part of Ban.do's team. I start getting wedding ideas - including meeting the photographers I've hired! I also met Christina, who now I don't know how I lived without!

April: We move into a new house. It's amazing. It came with kittens in the basement, who arrived on Ryan's birthday (he loves cats). We keep one. (The bottom kitten pictured).

May: I have my first illustration in the New York Times!

June: Visit Providence, Rhode Island for the first time to go to ICON 7. Meet lots of new illustrator friends.

July: We make our annual trip down to San Diego for ComicCon, or more importantly, our eating tour of San Diego - including our favorite Mexican place, El Zarape, and my favorite dessert place, Extraordinary Desserts.

August: Engagement shoot! We have our engagement shoot at the Neon Sign Museum in Las Vegas, and it was magical.

September: Debut Bad Girls Throughout History postcards in my Etsy shop; it gets nice write-ups on Creature Comforts and Design Work Life.

October: We go apple picking and pumpkin patching.

November: It's my birthday!

December: I have a booth at my first craft show, Renegade LA's Holiday Show, with Christina. It's an awesome experience, in no small part thanks to all the people who came by, said hi, and bought things.

And I just want to end this post with a heartfelt thank you to all of you, whether this is your first time reading this blog or your tenth year reading this blog. I am so truly grateful that you're here and coming along this journey with me. I look forward to sharing so much more in 2013!

One Week To Christmas: Sugar Cookies

So I've been kinda down for the count over the weekend, again, with this cold that won't go away/keeps mutating. The errands still need to be run, meals still need to happen, and presents still need to be wrapped. So I was pretty run down by Sunday afternoon, when I took a nap on the couch and Ryan made sugar cookies.

Because it's almost Christmas, and I love the holidays, and I love baking for the holidays, and I'm sad that I can't right now. Ryan did a pretty perfect job though, so I might just think about letting him do all the leg work next holiday. Just look at that snowman.

He used a sugar cookie recipe from this vintage Betty Crocker Cookie Book I got as a birthday present last year from a friend, and then Martha Stewart's Royal Icing recipe (sans egg whites, because we were out).

So do yourself a favor, as the holidays just pick up speed and race by: make yourself or someone you love these cookies. You'll feel better.

Sunday Style Section: Candy Cane Stripes

I love this dress - everything about it is high fashion holiday. If only I had a fancy enough occasion to call for a dress like this. Instead, I'm pretty much bundled up at home with a fancy cold for the time being. Hope your weekend is going much better!

New Print!

Happy news! One of my favorite lettering quotes I've done is now available as a print in the Etsy shop! Order by the end of the week to get it in time for the holidays - even though it will be available after too.

Thank You, Renegade LA!

I had such an awesome & fun time this weekend having a booth for the first time at Renegade Craft Fair. Thank you so much to those who stopped by, said hello, made sweet comments, instagrammed, and bought some artwork!

Special thanks to my booth bestie, Christina Winkelmann. You might recognize her amazing vintage ornament wreaths from the internet, or her bingo wrapping paper from the L.A. Times (yeah, the L.A. Times).

And extra thanks to my partner-in-crime and in life, Ryan, for all his help and support through this whole endeavor. He cut, packed, taped, carried, hung, sold whenever I needed an extra pair of hands and made sure I was fed the whole weekend (and the many weeks leading up to the event). He is the best partner that a girl could ever ask for.

Finally, one of the highlights was meeting sweet fellow vendors and checking out their wares and clever booths - like this one from Unicorn Crafts. Also noteable were meeting the sweet Tess of We Hold Hands, Sylvia of Flyaway Facets, and Keiko of Small Adventure.

Thanks to the hardworking gang at Renegade Craft Fair for putting on such a great holiday show! Looking forward to the next one.

Monogram iPhone Cases

A couple months ago I got an amazing opportunity to work on some lettering for ban.do - on iPhone cases exclusive to Anthropologie. It's one of my major goals to have my work sold at Anthropologie, so this is a dream baby step. I'm so excited to have worked on these adorable cases with Jen at ban.do, thanks a bunch Jen!

These cases are finally available now at Anthro, and they kind of make a perfect holiday gift. Just sayin'.

New Prints!

Wow, November sped by so fast - just like the rest of 2012. I really meant to update more than I did, but November was a blur of wisdom teeth, a cold, and prepping for Renegade. And now we're almost there!

In prep for Renegade next weekend, I also added two new prints to my Etsy shop:

Find em both in the shop.

Sunday Style Section: Emerald Green Lace

As we really start to fall into winter, I'm dreaming in deep jewel tones like this emerald green lace dress from Valentino's Pre-Spring 2013 collection.
