For tonight's blue moon. The last one we had was December 31, 2009 - which was the wedding of one of my best friend's and a magical night. So here's to a new blue moon to kick off the end of summer. Happy weekend!

Ryan & I spent part of last weekend visiting the Getty and seeing the Gustav Klimt: Magic of Line exhibit. It was incredible - his draftsmanship was just off the charts stunning and surprisingly contemporary later in his career.
I love spending time studying master work through my sketchbook, and I really haven't done it since school so I drew my heart out for three hours - these are a couple of the spreads from my sketchbook that day. And if you're in the LA area, definitely check out this exhibit!

On a pattern kick now, and thought I'd make one of a couple of my simple pleasures: coffee & lipstick. They say that whenever the economy declines, lipstick sales go up, so I'm sure I'm not alone.

For the eagle-eyed, I switched up my twitter background a couple nights ago with this new popsicle pattern I illustrated. I really love patterns, I don't know why it took me this long to start doing them.
If you'd like to use this one for personal/non-commercial-use, please just let me know - leave a comment or email me!

Going to be working on branding tonight with Christina for her new photography venture. Sometimes champagne is the secret ingredient.

This weekend I finally made it to the beach. I've been feeling really out of balance lately, with this past year being extremely go-go-go and about adjusting to huge changes (graduating, getting engaged, new job, freelancing, moving). I just felt so burnt out. So instead of sorting it all out, I just slept and cried a lot.
And then I went to the beach. I feel so much better. I'm a water sign, and being near water is grounding for us aqua signs. I love this quote above because of that. I made this little photo illustration for anyone else who needed a reminder.

Happy Wednesday! Here is my latest butterfly pin-up - a blue morpho butterfly with a raven-haired cheesecake gal. I'm planning on printing & shooting this series this upcoming weekend, so expect them in the shop some time next week!
In other news, I've been doodling a lot in the sketchbook, trying to escape the heat which makes it hard to work in my studio, and figuring out next steps. Hope you're staying cool and enjoying the last month of summer!

This photo comes from this collection of geisha photos. I found it fascinating since you rarely see vintage photographs of Asian people, and this is practically on the level of surrealist Lois Fuller's butterfly dance performances. Kinda perfect inspiration for my series right now too, huh?

This butterfly is also known as the Sea Monster or Yellow Migrant. Adding more to my butterfly pin-ups series - which will likely go on sale in the Etsy shop soon!

Here's an illustration I did last year to celebrate Julia Child's 100th birthday, which happens to be today! Happy birthday, ya minx. Thank you for inspiring me every day with the idea that it is never too late to start.

The second in my new butterfly pin-up series! I'm having so much fun with these, and can't wait for the next few in the collection to manifest themselves in my mind.
Happy Thursday!

Late last night I started a little doodle, inspired by the illustration I had just finished for another project, and then found this to be the start of a new series of prints I'm going to do for my Etsy shop. Inspired by pin-ups (duh) and butterfly specimen boxes, which I collect.

Hi there, friends! August hit the ground running and hasn't stopped since. I've been working on a lot of projects that can't be shared yet, but will be soon enough. One of them was an entire wedding suite (including invitations, RSVPs, programs, menus, Thank You cards and a monogram) I designed for my friends that debuted this weekend at their beeeeautiful wedding in Ojai. It is so so rewarding to do wedding designs, especially for friends, because it makes people so happy. I love love.
I also love getting away for a weekend - this was the first time ever this year, so Ryan and I were loooong overdue. We set up camp at the Capri hotel and was poolside for the first time this summer. It was so nice to celebrate the beautiful wedding of friends I love, and to meet their equally charming circle of friends.
Hopefully I will have more work to share the rest of this week - at least a new piece for Ten Paces & Draw that I'm super excited about. I don't see things slowing down for the rest of August, but I wouldn't want it any other way!
